Thy Kingdom Come!
Nearly ninety women from the Ohio Valley Region and beyond gathered with Legionary Priests and Brothers, Consecrated Women, and RC missionary young men to begin a discovery of the unique spiritual gifts (or charisms), which God has given to each person to use for building His Kingdom. Yvonne Nuxoll, CW, Fr. Mathew Summe, LC and Cherye Morgan introduced this program at the "Gifted and Blessed Women's Convention" on Saturday, September 23rd, using materials compiled from multiple resources including the Catherine of Siena Institute’s Spiritual Gifts Discernment Program.
This convention was the first step in the program. Attendees left with a Catholic Spiritual Gifts Inventory, a workbook, and other resource materials that will be used in conjunction with their spiritual guides / directors. After discovering how to discern the presence of these charisms in their lives, they will select one per year and learn how to use this gift to serve God as His Masterpiece.
Step 1 was the Women’s Convention whereby we began a discovery of the Catherine of Sienna Institute’s Spiritual Gifts Discernment Program; resources on the Discernment of God’s Will by St. Ignatius and Fr. Timothy Gallagher, Transforming Discipleship by Greg Ogden, along with the specific application of our Regnum Christi Vision, Mission and Spirituality to a more purposeful driven service to the church.
Step 2 is the Gifts Interview whereby 1 gift from the Called and Gifted Assessment is selected with help from the Spiritual Guide/Director for the first year. We are recommending that this interview be scheduled and completed within 4-6 weeks of the Women’s Convention so that the material is fresh in mind. Please reach out to your spiritual guide/director and ask to schedule approximately 1.5 hours for this process. THIS IS A SEPARATE TIME FROM ROUTINE MONTHLY SPIRITUAL DIRECTION. This is the amount of time recommended by the Catherine of Sienna Institute. In preparation for this meeting, review pages 14-32 in the Discerning Charisms Workbook from Catherine of Sienna. This will provide direction on how to discern a charism and help in the development of your own personal discernment plan.
Step 3 is the year-long discernment process on the first gift selected where you will work with your spiritual director as well as in your Encounter teams monthly (More communication coming on this soon from your team leaders). In addition to these monthly contacts with your spiritual director and your team, you will need to commit weekly to pray, test and experiment with the use of your charism to enable the discernment process. This process is clearly outlined in the pages referenced above in the Discerning Charisms Workbook from Catherine of Sienna. While this may appear at first to be a lot of work or commitment, the process is very clear and simple. It will provide you with insight as to the special spiritual gifts that Lord has provided you with and facilitate your growth towards your Kingdom Purpose in service to the Church.
Steps 4, 5, 6, etc. are years following where the next gift is studied and discerned with the Spiritual Director/Guide for one year for each gift.
Step 1 is to access the written talks and videotapes of each of the presentation on the RC Ohio Valley website and begin to review and study the concepts, stories and example questions regarding the spiritual gifts or charisms. In addition to the Introduction, there are six (6) distinct talks or presentations.
Step 2 is to order the “ Called & Gifted for Small Groups: Participant Materials” on the Catherine of Sienna Website for $25 and to take your Gifts Assessment on pages 11-19 in the Catholic Spiritual Gifts Inventory from Catherine of Sienna Institute.
Steps 1 & 2 will serve in the same capacity for those that did not attend the convention as Step 1 above for those who did.
Step 3 is reach out to your spiritual director for support and clear direction on this process, scheduling your gifts interview in the same way that is outlined above in Step 2 for those who DID attend the Convention.
