Thy Kingdom Come!
The second commitment made during the ceremony of becoming a Spiritual Mother requires three short prayers each day.
We used “three short prayers” as a commitment for a couple of reasons. Since we are “adopting” our Priest as our son, we want to think of him every day as we do our own children and family members. We are not thinking of him in a human way, but in a spiritual way.
We are close to our family and tend to their physical needs, i.e. errands, raising children, bussing children, doctor visits, cooking and cleaning, etc. We also think of them spiritually with a prayer throughout the day, maybe even offering a small sacrifice for each one in our family each day. But with our Priest-sons, we think of them only in a spiritual way, praying for them and for their souls, offering a sacrifice for them to help them spiritually carry out their priestly duties as they tend to the spiritual needs of ministering to us with the Sacraments.
We pray for them as they give us the Body and Blood of Jesus at Mass. We pray for them after our Confession thanking God for our Priest to give us His forgiveness in a very tangible way and healing our wounds. We pray for them as they minister the sacrament of the sick and dying, giving those souls the comfort and forgiveness needed. We pray for them as they marry our sons and daughters, family members, and friends, helping them to include God in their marriage. We pray for them as they make their vows in the sacrament of Holy Orders to the priesthood and the deaconate. We pray for them as they baptize our children, and family members. We pray for them as they minister the sacrament of Confirmation for our youth.
They are very busy with OUR spiritual lives. As our prayer goes, “I beg You that all those who may approach them may leave them with a greater love for You, my God. I pray that through them Your Kingdom on earth may grow and be strengthened.” They need our prayers and our sacrifices to help them help us. We are invoking Our Blessed Mother Mary and St. Michael the Archangel for their protection, as well as ours.
Please try to focus on our prayers, giving meaning to each and every word as we pray, asking God to give us the grace to pay attention to our words and praying with our heart. Just try to visualize Our Blessed Mother giving our Priest-sons hugs, and St. Michael standing guard at their house or the parish Church door.
As always, please feel free to call me about any comments or questions.
God bless you and your families.
