Thy Kingdom Come!
The theme for this year's Called to Create Artists’ Retreat is "Stained and Sainted.” We, the Toledo Contingent, will be hosting this year's retreat. With a theme of stained glass, how could we not feature the great rose window of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral in the Glass Capital of the world, Toledo, Ohio? The wooden tracery holds sparkling colored glass depicting 15 mysteries of the rosary. These broken pieces of colored glass come together to grace us with their radiant beauty, as we anticipate this same glory in heaven.
Art historian and adjunct professor at Mount St. Mary Seminary and School of Theology, Dr. Ceil Dorger, will speak on Gothic Architecture and the spiritual symbolism of stained glass. Retreat Master, Fr. Thomas Flynn, will be our spiritual director, leading us in meditations, celebrating Holy Mass and serving as our confessor. Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the art and beauty of Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Retreat Center will provide added inspiration for our creative work.
Studio time will be included where artists will create, share ideas and get to know one another. Bring the medium/media and surface that you are most comfortable working with (paints, pastels, graphite, ink, canvas, paper, wood,…) and produce a work of art inspired by our retreat theme of “Stained and Sainted.” Project ideas and examples will be available to spark your creativity.
Like a stained glass window, may our creative work, through the power of the Holy Spirit, illuminate, ignite and invite others to Our Risen Lord Jesus!
